How far do you live from City Hall? Do you ride a bike? If so, how often and what is your bike mode share for all trips in Davis? Describe efforts (if any) that you take to drive less often (or shorter distances).

Cecilia Escamilla-Greenwald:

I live approximately three miles from City Hall. Yes, I ride a bike; however, it is not done as often as I would like these days due to the fact that I work in Sacramento representing state employees in 53 agencies in and around the Greater Sacramento / Natomas / West Sacramento area. This requires me to essentially have an office in my car when I travel to workplaces to have meetings with state employees regarding the state budget, grievances, meets and confers and mediation, etc.

I have an economical car, a Honda Civic LX, that gets great gas mileage, but I still strive to drive less by scheduling my meetings and appointments in such a way that meetings are located in building that are close in proximity to each other. This provides for less traffic congestion and gas usage.

As a councilmember I will look to increase bike ridership and alternative means of transportation by looking toward smaller and more compact development in the core of town to allow people to use bikes and walking to get to the core of town.

Don Saylor:

I live about two miles from City Hall. My wife and I both ride bicycles. Her daily commute to work on the UCD campus is by bicycle. My bike share is probably less than 10%. More than half of my in-town trips are by use of a city-owned GEM Neighborhood electric car.

Stephen Souza:

According to GoogleMaps, my wife Robin and I live 3.3 miles from City Hall. I usually drive my Prius to Council meetings due to the fact that I come directly from a full day of work and we usually do not adjourn before 11pm. I must admit that I don’t ride my Gary Fisher street bike nearly enough, but I probably ride more than the average citizen.

My campaign has been utilizing a Burley bike trailer (lent to us by a Davis Bicycles! member) for all of our Farmers’ Market tabling activity and some of our lawn sign placement.

Sydney Vergis:

I live a six blocks from City Hall, and try to bike to the majority of my in-city trips. Additionally, I enjoy bike riding recreationally and love biking to the Putah Creek Café on Saturday mornings.
