Help Write The Next Davis Bike Plan! |
| Home About DB! DB! Projects Events & Activities Davis Bicycling Guide Davis Bicycle History |
Davis has been a leader in bicycle planning since the 1960s. Since 2001, however, there have not been any major bike improvements in the bike plan. Davis Public Works and the Bicycle Advisory Commission have been working on elements of the plan. Now the public has the opportunity to suggest what we want Davis to look like in 20 years--what problems do we want fixed, what projects do we want built, and what programs do we want developed? The plan has both policy and project sections. The project section's role is to identify all of the improvements in bicycle facilities so they can be planned for, budgeted, and built. Topics include new bike overpasses/underpasses, bike lanes, better connections between existing bike routes, and finishing the Davis Greenway. The policy section covers the "6 E's": Equity, Education, Encouragement, Engineering, Enforcement, and Evaluation. This includes everything from bike parking to bike events to bike data. The overall plan is designed to promote respect and appreciation amongst users of the different modes of transportation. All bicyclists--from casual 'round the block' bicyclists to road-racing cyclists--are welcome--the plan is for everyone, and recognizes the different needs of different cyclists. The Bicycle Advisory Commission will hold their next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday June 16th and will discuss the current Bike Plan Policy Draft written by Davis Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Tara Goddard. Please send comments on the draft to Tara at tgoddard@cityofdavis.org The following other bike plan documents are available for review: |
